Had an awesome time at SFX YM retreat, went for Holy Week servers' training, reached home at 4.30pm, crashed on the couch, and woke up about an hour ago.

Been listening to Paramore's older stuff lately... I must say that All We Know Is Falling is an excellent album. The songs are just totally awesome. Extremely raw and full of emotion. Hayley's voice is just beautiful, and the music played by the boys are able to bring out the emotion and feeling in her voice. The lyrics too, are full of meaning. Songs like My Heart, Franklin, Pressure, and Never Let This Go... The lyrics are actually things that I can relate to. Listening to the songs, listening to the lyrics, it somehow just touches me emotionally, and I can really connect with the band's music.

So I went for the Monochrome gig at Roomful of Blues with Tim Wong last night... First time going into a bar, and we almost got lost looking for the place. It was a pretty small place, and it was kinda empty when we got there, but it filled up after a while. And we were forced to pay 8 freakin' bucks each for drinks before they allowed us to stay in the bar.

Anyway, the music was awesome. Experimental alternative rock, I guess? Epic basslines, freakin' awesome guitar, bass and keyboard solos, and awesome vocals. Best way to describe their music is a cross between Rise Against, Muse and Paramore, with some Saosin thrown in. Oh, and they also do Chinese songs. Which are equally awesome, even though I can't understand the lyrics:P They do have their own brand of sound, which is unique and nice.

So yeah, enjoyed awesome music, and had a great time hanging out and and chatting with the band. And I have an autographed album:D Great band, epic music, awesome and friendly people. Very friendly(: I'll definitely continue to support them.

To those people who think local music sucks, that is a myth. There are awesome local bands out there. Seriously.

Still reliving the concert in my mind... Kinda disappointed that they didn't play that many songs from All We Know Is Falling. Oh, and also that there was no meet and greet.

Anyway, first things first. Core Leaders' Retreat. Was pretty good I guess. The sessions were kinda cheem, but we did pick up a coupla points on how to be a good Christian Leader. The retreat as a whole was a good experience I guess, especially since due to school and stuff I've kinda been straying away. It was a good time to be recharged and get back to God. And we also bonded together a lot as a core team:D

Oh, and Bishop Cornelius Sim, who gave the main sessions, is super cool. He camwhored with us with his iPhone and uploaded the photos straight to Facebook. How awesome is that. Freakin' cute:D

Now, back to Paramore.

I was supposed to camp outside the Indoor Stadium with Geo and her friends at 9am, but since I had retreat I couldn't come in the morning. Ended up reaching at 4pm, and it was already super crowded. Chatted with some other Parafans in the queue while waiting, and they finally let us into the stadium like 30 minutes late.

When I first got into the stadium I was about the same distance away from the stage as at BNO, which was freakin' close, considering how long the queue was already when I reached. Here's a photo (not mine):

I'm the dude in green at the bottom right corner:D Anyway, I guess it was a good thing that I didn't join Geo in the morning, because I eventually managed to mosh my way to literally 2-3 rows from the stage barrier, while Geo was moshed backwards pretty far.

Monochrome was the opening band, and for a local band they are SUPER FREAKIN' GOOD. Best way to describe them is a cross between Muse, Paramore and Rise Against. They're like my wildest dreams come true. Super tight playing, and this was a live set, mind you. Damn sick basslines, some of which were even wilder than Chris Wolstenholme's. Guitarist was awesome, crazy riffing and epic shred solos. The female vocalist was pretty damn nice too. So yeah. Go check them out: Monochrome. They're doing another gig this Saturday, I'll see if I can go down:D

So Paramore was freakin' awesome. Jumped, pushed, screamed, and generally had bucketloads of fun. And they said we were their loudest crowd ever:D Hayley is seriously super pretty in person. And Hayley, Taylor and Jeremy are damn cute when they're jumping all over the stage. Their set was also awesome. Hayley's vocals are super awesome live, and so are the instruments. And all of them have awesome stage presence. The only issue I had was that their set was 10 hours too short:(

Where The Lines Overlap

Taylor sat on the edge of the stage literally 2 meters away from me while playing towards the end of the song. Singing along to this song was just awesomesauce.

The Only Exception

IMO the best song from Brand New Eyes. Also had great fun singing along to it.

For A Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic

This one's pretty epic. 30 seconds into the video Taylor realizes his guitar is screwed. Oh, Taylor's on the left in the vid btw. He calls his roadie, and while he's getting a replacement Taylor runs around the stage swinging his guitar like crazy, and pretends to shred out a solo. Unfortunately you can't see him "solo" in the vid because he runs off to the right of the stage, but it was seriously awesome. Damn cute:D

Pressure

This one is also epic. You can't see it clearly in the video, but around 2:23 Jeremy does a backflip. And then at 2:34 he backflips again, jumping over Taylor. As a bassist myself I was totally in awe at his stage antics not just during this song but during the whole concert. Jumping around, throwing his bass around, etc... Respect.

Brick By Boring Brick

Well, this was the last song of their encore. And it was really epic. This is the best song to sing along to, especially the outro bit. Anyway at the start of this vid is the part where Hayley calls us their "loudest crowd we've ever had". Oh, and Taylor can actually play drums pretty well. You can hear him from 6:00 onwards. At 6:18, after Jeremy finished throwing his picks into the crowd, he attempts to throw Hayley too:P And then at 6:44, he dives off his amp. Epic.

So all in all, it was an awesome concert. Best night of my life. Paramore is ♥

Founder's Day today... School usual lah. A parade, which was the first parade in a long time which I didn't participate in, followed by academic awards presentation, which as usual was super boring. Spent the whole time talking with friends and hanging out outside the auditorium. Oh, but one thing I learnt from the whole celebrations is that our school's Philharmonic Orchestra is seriously damn good. Like Damn. Good. Although I'm still probably going for Dance FOA when the time comes for it, since I got quite a few friends in dance.

After school, Caryl, Bryan Seah and I went to CJC to hang out at their canteen and meet friends. Damn awesome. I hung out with their CJ friends for a while, and said hi to quite a few SFX people too. Most of whom were like "What the hell are you doing in CJ?". Lol. We were like seriously damn guai lan, a buch of ACS(I) people sitting in the middle of the CJ canteen. Heh:P Caryl was staying there late for a friend's birthday party, so Bryan and I left early. Oh, and we met Vic Wong at CJ too. AC power! ^.^ But yeah, it was seriously damn fun, hanging around CJ, talking to friends, making new friends.

So yeah, it was a damn epic afternoon.

Oh the bus ride back home from CJ, Bryan and I were sort of discussing about friendship and stereotyping, and judging people. I was further affirmed about this when I went for evening mass. This was this evening's gospel:

Yeah. So anyway, what we were saying was that we shouldn't force stereotypes onto people, we shouldn't judge people, and we shouldn't base our relationships on merely first impressions. We should give everyone an equal chance. While some people find it hard to make friends, most of the time it's yourself at fault. Often you're letting your impressions cloud you, and you form judgements about the person, making you closed up and unfriendly. And it's true. Like this afternoon, by being totally open, and talking to random CJ guys who were around our table, I made a few new friends, and I realize that they are awesome, totally nice guys.

So yeah, moral of the story is that although it's hard, try not to make first impressions or to judge. Give everyone a chance. Especially since friends and a social life is pretty important to surviving IB.

Sorry if the above post is kinda cliche/lame/senseless. It's hard to type out my thoughts coherently when its 11.30 at night and I'm half dead.

So... Figures I haven't blogged in some time. Oh well.

Anyway, Atlas picnic was pretty fun. Food, fellowship, frisbee, rugby. Oh, and we flashmobbed our mass dance in the middle of the botanic gardens! :D Camwhored quite a bit too. All in all, an awesome time with awesome friends(:

Lessons are in full swing, and as Geo put it, they're giving out homework like free air. Math and chem are crazy, and physics isn't easy either. And I'm doing phyiscs SL, which is apparently a free 7 (not the reason why I took physics, but yeah). As for English, I'm halfway through reading Siddhartha, and I'm actually enjoying it, which is something unusual for me with regards to literature texts.

As for my class... If you had asked me how I found my class last week, I'd have said I didn't really like it, and I preferred OG5. As of today, after making plenty of new friends, after hanging out and working with them for a couple of days, I must say that my class has very nice people in it (OG5 is still better tho :D).

Strange. I'm actually enjoying IB life so far. Even the time spent in class studying with classmates. Strange for me, but it's good.

Went over to Shawn's house in the morning for Clare and Mel's surprise birthday party. Reached there at 8am while the two of them were still sleeping to help with the preparations of the party. Spent most of the time filling waterbombs with Rachel, Shawn, Joel and Max, which was pretty funny cos the balloons kept exploding when we tried to tie them:P

Mariel drew a birthday card on Clare's feet, which was also pretty hilarious, cos she was like drawing all over and Clare was still in a deep sleep. We tried doing the same to Mel, but he woke up almost immediately. Ended up tossing bomb bags at him and trying to shove ice down his pants. After that we went to wake Clare up, in more or less the same way, shook her out of bed then tossed in a coupla bomb bags.

After that we went out to the porch to eat. There was a pretty entertaining struggle as Shawn, then Joel both struggled with Mel in order to give him a kiss. Shawn then gave them their presents, which were really wth. Being born in the year of the rooster and dog, Shawn got Clare and Mel dog and chicken food. Conclusion: If Shawn ever gives you a birthday present, you should be afraid. Oh, and Mel actually attempted to eat his present. Yes, Mel ate dog food. And so did Sherman. Apparently it has a strong smell, but doesn't taste of anything. I'll take their word for it. Oh, and I also managed to cake both Clare and Mel in the face:D

After that we started playing with the waterbombs. Well, we started playing with the waterbombs, but ended up using a hose as well. Super fun, tossing bombs and spraying water at each other. In the end all of us were completely soaked through, except for Rachel, Jaime and Max, who had wisely remained indoors.

After we dried off we went inside to watch a bit of TV. Then we watched Meet The Fockers. It's a really really really funny show. Plenty of sexual references and all.

So yeah, that just about sums up the morning. Oh, and photos and videos of the party are on Facebook(:

Spent the rest of the day Facebooking and working on the Math Portfolio. Which I am incredibly frustrated with. I swear the Math Port is super annoying. Extremely tedious. And it involves complex roots of cubic equations. The best part? This is just a practice. And I still have Chem IA and a Written Commentary to do. Oh well.

OG outing on Wednesday! :D

Oh, and if anyone's wondering how I spent Valentine's day, I had a lovely night. A date. At home. With my math portfolio.

The downsides of being in a 6-year IP school:

Same campus for 6 years
Same canteen food for 6 years
Same teachers for 6 years (this isn't necessarily a bad thing)
Same school culture for 6 years (neither is this)
No returning to secondary school to visit teachers
3/4 of the people in Year 5 (IBDP1) are also from IP, therefore we've already been together for 4 years and will be for another 2
Get to meet less people compared to JC students (see point 6.)
3:1 Guy to Girl ratio. 'nuff said.

I was listening to Insomnia just now... I started doing the mass dance moves by myself... And realized how much I miss orientation :(

Anyway, a few random thoughts (only 4 actually)

1. I really need to start dieting and exercising after CNY

2. There are 1026 Photos and 26 videos of me on Facebook. I am a camwhore! :D

3. Bad Romance and Insomnia are stuck in my head.

4. I don't normally listen to dance/techno/electronic/hiphop/pop music, but I predict that by the end of my 2 years in IB my music taste will (unfortunately?) include some of those genres.

Not much to say about yesterday, I basically summed up all feelings and emotions about OG5 and orientation in the previous post ♥

Friday was like probably the last time we met in school officially as an OG... Took our cohort photo together on the Astroturf, then did our mass dance... Super fun, of course. Had break together as an OG, then went off our separate ways into our different classes.

Well, my class isn't as bad as expected. Some pretty nice people in there, and I know some of them already. I'm looking forward to getting to know them together, but I definitely still miss OG5 and would rather be with them instead.

Anyway, after that was CNY concert. Nothing to say about it, cos I sorta slept through it:P

After the concert Kar Min, Abhishek, Samuel, Jeremiah, Tiankai and I walked over to Broadway for lunch. Had a pretty fun time, hanging out together and discussing our new classes.

I'm gonna miss OG5 Atlas very much. I love y'all(:

Orientation 2010: The Battle of Olympia

Today. Had Anglolympics in the morning. Captain's ball played with a rugby ball and a carrot, handball played using a ballon (which ended up being more like rugby than handball) and frisbee. Unfortunately we got decimated and won only one game of handball, but we still had plenty of fun (and exercise).

Mass dance session 2 was after that. Learnt the rest of the mass dance. Can't wait to do the actual thing tomorrow:P

After that was closing lunch. Camwhored, ate food, watched performances, watched prize presentations. The performances and items weren't bad, I guess. Pretty nice photo slideshow, a coupla piano recitals and quite a few band performances. The band performances were epic, although the sound engineering was sucky. The guitar and bass amps were like super soft. Anyway, during one of the performances about half the year 5s and all the OGLs and councillors ran to the front of the auditorium just below the stage, and started jumping and singing along to the song, reaching out to touch the vocalist and (sorta) stage-diving. Freakin' epic, freakin' fun, totally awesome. Typical ACSian craziness.

Ohohoh and we actually won a prize! We won the "Best OG Cheer Award". Video of our cheer on Facebook! :D

So... Orientation has drawn to a close. I have three words to sum up orientation: It. Was. Awesome. I totally love OG5 Atlas! ♥ We really have come a long way as an OG. At first, we were kinda shy I guess, each one keeping to him/herself. Slowly, we warmed up to each other, started talking to each other and coming out of our shells. Bonding together, running together, sweating together, shouting together... Little by little, we started growing together as friends, as a team, as a family. Thinking back on the past few days, I really have mixed feelings. Happy and contented with the memories of awesome, fun-filled times we had together, and sad because orientation is over and we'll be changing classes.

Although we'll be moving into our new classes tomorrow, we'll still be with each other in spirit. We are such awesome people. Together, we can hold the world, and kick some ass. We must continue to stay strong, stay together as one.

Shall keep this one short... ACSiting Race was awesome! But super tiring. Running like mad around Sentosa, doing retarded and dirty tasks. Pretty damn fun, though. And bonding.

Oh, and our OG finally went out to eat together. Had lunch/dinner (It was like 4pm lol) at Swensen's at Holland Village. It was awesome, hanging out together and talking about random crap. We somehow managed to link almost every conversation topic to an IB subject, whether Physics, Bio, Econs or TOK.

OG5 Atlas ♥

Orientation has FINALLY started. Most fun day of school this year.

Started out with team building games. The usual lah, cram together pieces of newspaper as the OGLs gradually remove the sheets, thus reducing the area; create a structure that will stop an egg from breaking when dropped from the second floor; work together to memorize a puzzle; chair race, where we squeeze onto a row of chairs and move forward by shifting chairs from the back to the front; some relay thing where we spin on the spot before racing in a gunny sack; and charades, where the things we had to act out were really random, such as "loanshark harassing a Vietnamese". Well I guess the games were fun lah, and they did help bond us further as an OG.

After that was mass dance practice. Surprisingly fun! Taught us the first part of the dance, which was set to Insomnia. It was fun, and I enjoyed myself doing the dance, as did most of the cohort. Can't wait to learn the rest of the dance, and do the real thing on Friday:D Oh, and after the dance a few of the OGLs were having a sort of dance off on stage. Was pretty fun to watch:P

Then we had cheering. Again, I surprised myself by joining in and actually cheering.

After that was wet games. Crazy fun, getting ourselves all wet and dirty. Like they say, it's okay to act like a retard, as long as you're with good friends. Anyway, the games. Food twister; sliding down a soapy groundsheeet to dig marbles out of a pail of disgusting liquid; immersing ourselves in water, then squeezing our shirts to collect as much water as possible; human minesweeper with waterbombs for mines; shampooing our hair, then trying to collect as much shampoo foam as possible; and sock fight. Sock fight was epic, man. 2 teams of 6 people wrestling on a soapy groundsheet trying to rip each other's socks off. Crazy.

So yeah. Today was crazy fun. Enjoyed ourselves immensely in all the activities. I'm guessing it did bond us together as an OG and ignite some team spirit in us, but we shall wait and see.

As promised, I tried my best not to be cynical today, and shall continue to do so for the rest of orientation, and hopefully the year. After all, IB life in ACS(I) is something to be cherished.

Bought a Vox amPlug AC30 on my way home from school today... It's a great investment, since I'm adamant on improving my guitar skills, however due to my schedule I can only practice at night. Was jamming with it just now and I must say the tone is pretty nice for a little box powered by 2 AAA batteries.

Anyway, slight rant after seeing some posts on Facebook:

My OG is dead. Don't get me wrong, they are awesome people, and we do chit-chat a little during recess and all, but we're always separated into, well, cliques if you wish. Individually they are awesome people, but as an OG we're a dead group. Looking at Facebook, seeing how the other OGs are camwhoring together, going on outings together, playing all sorts of weird, fun games... Makes me wonder what's missing from my OG.

Ohwell, orientation proper starts tomorrow. Let's hope the games or smth ignites some team spirit in us.

BIG NIGHT OUT WAS AWESOMESAUCE!!!!!!

Went after school with Geo, Grace, Melissa, some rijc girl whose name i forgot:P, Joel, Leng, Tim Goh, Tim Wong, Kevin Tan, Kevin Beck, Jasper and Ryan Tan. Reached the indoor stadium at like 4plus. We were like first in line for the merchandise queue! :D :D Bought a Muse shirt and a Saosin shirt. Also bought a Muse poster, but it kinda got lost while we were in the concert:(

So yeah, anyway we managed to get a pretty good view of the stage. The closest I got was like 4 heads from the front? Yeah, it was pretty awesome.

Anyway, Saosin was not bad, although they had a coupla screwups with the sound system. The first mosh during Saosin kinda separated our group, so i spent the rest of the concert with Tim Goh and Geo.

Rise Against was also awesome. Crazy headbanging and moshing. This was like my first time in a mosh pit, and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Being tossed around in random directions and smashing into people around you while listening to good, loud music. Really good music at that. They also played a coupla acoustic songs, which was awesome too.

MUSE. WAS. FREAKIN' OUT OF THIS WORLD! Awesome music, awesome showmanship, awesome background videos and awesome lights, lazer and smoke effects. Feeling the deep, loud thump of Chris' bass, the loud rhythmic banging of Dom's drums and Matt's screeching guitar and epic vocals is something that just can't be translated into words. Anyway, didn't really mosh during Muse, but headbanged and jumped around a lot with Tim and Geo.

After the concert we walked over to Kallang Leisure Park to buy drinks from the 7-11, and hang out at some coffee shop.

So yeah, in conclusion it was a PRETTY DAMN AWESOME NIGHT. Great music, great show, great moshing. Most fun I've had in a long time.

Best night of my life so far. SAOSIN, RISE AGAIN & MUSE FTW!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and I kinda lost my phone in the mosh pit, so I don't have a handphone now:( Don't call or sms me as I haven't got my replacement sim yet.

Okay, I guess it's about time I post a proper update about the past week.

Soo...

Thursday

First day of orientation. Nothing notable, except that we had icebreakers. Which wasn't all that fun because I already knew the 2 games that we played.

Friday

War games today. Was pretty fun, I guess, running around waterbombing each other. And of course all the epic moments with the OGLs and forfeits and stuff.

Oh, and we also started raising funds as an OG for our WOW project. Sold bubble tea and cakes in school. Many screw-ups, including bad planning and poor allocation of manpower. Oh, and cups of bubble tea breaking, causing spills and messes all over the floor. But I guess this activity did help bond us together as an OG. And the surprising thing is that after some of us came back to school on Saturday to sell the leftovers during charity cafe, we actually made a profit! :D

Weekend: RCIY Retreat

Retreat was ok, I guess. My first time doing music for a church camp. Made a lot of mistakes, but learnt many tips on how to improve. Oh, and thanks to Simeon I'm now highly inspired to properly learn scales and theory in order to be able to improv and solo :D

Monday

Bridging lectures. Boring. Penis game. Entertaining. Enough said.

Today

More boring bridging lectures. But I actually attempted to pay attention today. Oh, and I submitted my subject options today. Chem, Math, Econs HL; Physics, English A1, Chinese B SL. I was worried about taking physics at first, but then apparently it's pretty easy. Math HL, now that's making me worried. They claim they're not trying to scare us into taking SL instead, yet they told us how hard HL is, showed us a thick stack of letters from students requesting to drop from HL to SL, and even got 2 students who dropped HL to SL to testify to us. Ohwell. Guess I'll just need to work super hard then.

My OG is awesome. I know I complained that it was kinda boring and sian being in the same school for JC as secondary, but I realized now that the people in my OG are pretty awesome. Through the bonding on Friday, and the chit-chat sessions during break and lectures, I must say that they are all pretty awesome people. I guess I shall attempt to stop being a cynic for the rest of my IB life :D

iPad: Sanitary needs for the 21st Century.

Seriously. Talk about bad product naming. Couldn't they have named it the iPod Touch Max or something? Because that's basically what it is. A glorified iTouch, with 3G built in. It's not exactly what I'd call a tablet PC. Hell, it needs to be SYNCED to a desktop.

If it was a Macbook with a swiveling multi-touch screen, I'd sell everything I had to buy it. But the iPad is seriously not worth it, especially since I already have the iPhone.

So... Today marks the end of the Y5 IP Enrichment Activities. Thank God. The past 1.5 weeks have been an ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME. At least orientation should be interesting.

Bryan Seah and Nat Chia managed to get into ACIB. Oh, and Bryan's in my OG too. Fun ^.^ As Gerard said, OWL is getting damn smart now.

Was reflecting about the transubstantiation of the host after communion at mass today. Was thinking about something Edward shared with me some time back, and just thought I'd put it up here too.

Why is does the consecration of the host into the Precious Body still leave the host with the physical characteristics of bread? Well, the explanation is simple.

Let's say you suffer from an iron deficiency. You go to the doctor, and he determines you need more iron. If he gave you a solid iron bar and told you to eat it, chances are you'd think he's nuts and you wouldn't listen to him. Even if you did, you could chew on the iron bar for hours and it'll do you no good.

Instead, the doc gives you iron supplement pills. In these iron pills, the iron is in salt form, in the form of iron sulphate. Those of us who take chemistry know that iron sulphate doesn't look like iron, doesn't smell like iron, doesn't taste like iron and doesn't feel like iron. However the iron ions in the iron sulphate are able to be absorbed by the body, remedying your iron deficiency.

In the same way, if Jesus cut a chunk out of His arm and asked you to eat it, you'd think He was nuts, and wouldn't do it. However, He comes to you in the form of bread. It doesn't look, smell, feel, or taste like His body, but we believe that He is truly present in it, and He will enter your heart and remedy your brokenness. He is present in the form of bread, which is something we can easily stomach, just like how we ingest iron in the form of pills, which is also something we can easily consume.

Dedication mass at Church of the Divine Mercy was pretty interesting... First and perhaps only time I'd get to attend the consecration of a catholic church. Although there were a few things that occurred during the mass that further convinced me that the liberalization of the mass through Vatican II can be easily abused in the Novus Ordo.

Firstly, the crucifix in the church was simply ugly. Sorry, but that's the truth. A crooked cross with Jesus half-nailed and falling off it, a freakin' oversized crown of thorns, and a Jesus with a hole in His chest, making Him look like something out of "The Mummy"?! That's just ridiculous.
The choir conductor was standing on a raised platform and conducting not only the choir, but the congregation. And the way he was conducting... It's hard to explain, but his movements were totally out of place for a church.
They rang bells during the Gloria. Which is not normally allowed except during the Easter Triduum. I might be wrong on this though, I'm not sure if it's acceptable to ring the bells during the Gloria at the consecration of a new church.
The congregation sang the doxology. Which is like sacrilege on the highest level.
The choir using the sanctuary as a stage to perform after the mass. Totally disrespectful to the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle.
What makes this all worse is that CDM is Fr Ignatius Yeo's church, and he's supposed to be the Liturgical Master of Ceremonies for the Archdiocese.

Having attended the mass according to the 1962 missal, I have to say that the Tridentine Mass is much more solemm, peaceful, and has more order than the Novus Ordo. Unfortunately, the Tridentine Mass has been almost driven to extinction. To quote Fr Augustine Tay, when the Catholic Church frowns upon the celebration Tridentine Mass, the Church has all but gone protestant, or something like that.

Of course, I'm not totally dissing the Novus Ordo. I do acknowledge that the Novus Ordo is also beautiful in its own way, and it also has its place in the church today. If celebrated properly according to the proper rubrics, it too can have great reverence and solemnity.

Just my humble opinion, my 2 cents worth.

Anyway, enough fanaticism; on to today. Session was excellent. Worship went ok, although I guess I could've been smoother in my delivery. The game seemed fun, and it went very smoothly. Gerard's reflection session was deep and reflective, and Candice's playing for worship and reflection was good, and really set the mood. Indeed, praise God for the wonders He has worked for OWL.

Oh, and good luck to all those receiving O Level results tomorrow! Remember, results aren't everything. No matter what you get, praise God for it, for it is all part of His plan. Trust in Him, and His plan will lead you to great heights.

Okay, perhaps I'm taking my fanaticism way too seriously... I mean bringing back gestures from the missal promulgated by Bl. John XXIII into the Mass of Paul IV is one thing, but using Facebook in Latin?!

Anyways, had a super long day today. OWL meeting with Fr B in the morning was pretty successful, got to discuss plenty of important issues regarding community. We also managed to firm up our vision and mission.

After that Candice, Gerard and I planned Sunday's session with the help of Cheryl. Managed to come up with a pretty good session plan. I still have to plan what I'm gonna say during worship tho:X

We were supposed to go down to play L4D after planning but since there wasn't much time the three of us ended up jamming:P

Chionged down to Macs for dinner after mass, then came back up for bible sharing, which I led. Went OK I guess, first time I was conducting a session while playing guitar at the same time. Gotta work on playing instrumentals while talking at the same time:X Sharing was pretty wonderful, hearing all the deep sharings and thoughts of our fellow community members.

So I guess today was pretty tiring, but super fruitful in terms of community. Here's to many more years of spirit-filled journeying and supporting each other.

Painted the room with OWL today. It's now a wonderful purpleish-pink colour. Makes it look really warm and homely. And I guess it did gave us a huge sense of achievement when we finished.

We had plenty of fun while painting, goofing around in the room, and while cleaning up. Got absolutely drenched when Candice sprayed me with the hose while cleaning up, so I didn't go for mass:P And David, Darius and I spent plenty of time laughing at Candice who was acting super crazy and hyper after prolonged exposure to paint fumes XD

Well, today also did made me think about community; about the differences and disagreements we have amongst ourselves as community members.

As Christians, we are called to be in a community, to journey in faith and support each other. Even Jesus had a community of 12 Apostles!

But of course, being human, we often can't get along with each other, with plenty of disagreements, and people whom you just can't stand the sight of no matter what.

I guess something we all find a challenge to do, myself included, is to look past our differences and recognize each person as a fellow community member, and a fellow brother or sister, a fellow child of God.

This also reminded me of a Good News reflection that I read some time back:

The first Apostles were a mixed bunch. Some of them were already friends when they met Jesus. Some were brothers. And some were strangers. Some were old, some were young. They had varied educational backgrounds, some with credentials and some with none. They came from a wide range of professions, and they differed in their expectations of the Messiah. And yet, Jesus wanted them all to be part of the same community.

Whom has God placed in your life to surprise you? Who's seemingly too different from you to be included in your circle of Christian friends or in your ministry? Who's a companion for collaboration that you haven't relied upon because you prefer to do the work by yourself?

Also notice that Jesus never asked for the group's input when he invited a new person to join them. This is what makes Christian community interesting. It's the Lord who chooses the members – or it should be, and if we ever try to control who's in our circle of friends, we should give it up and put Jesus back in charge. Oh, and if he adds a Judas to your group, trust that there's a good reason for it. He knows what he's doing. Sure, it will lead to suffering, but only for a good cause.

God knows who should be in our lives. When we do the selecting, we end up in relationships that go sour and communities that fall apart. But when we find ourselves in the fellowship of people we would not have chosen, we can be sure it's Jesus who pulled us together. God has a sense of humor. The very people we try to avoid are often the ones we end up working with in Christian service!

Sometimes I guess we forget that our community is here because Jesus called us together. We don't come for sessions, we don't join the community: Jesus is the one who brings us together as a community. Sure, we have differences, but there is a reason why we are called together; our differences can complement each other. It's not just enough to "tahan" each other when differences crop up, we are called to wholly accept the person who is different.

To end off this reflection, I shall leave another quote, this one taken from the Rite of Marriage during a Nuptial Mass (Wedding Mass for you non-fanatics). Let us call to mind the fact that the members of our community are called together by God as we chew over this quote:

What God has joined, Man must not divide.

Indeed. How true.

Meh. Im lazy, so shall make this quick.

Sunday:

Shawn's friends treated us to lunch at Sizzler. Food was excellent, and we had some fanatical conversation amongst ourselves.

Then in the evening was Glow, the SFX Youth Ministry Christmas Party. Was pretty fun lah, the fellowship, catching up with friends; the guys all being gay and painting their nails; the usual crap that we do together.

Oh, and the performances. Haha:P Live music performances by our talented musicians. The music was pretty good, and we had plenty of fun singing along and waving lightsticks:P

And how can I forget rapidough, the totally epic game that we played. Using playdough to create an object, while your teammates try to guess what you've made. Sounds easy, but when you're supposed to make objects like a stopwatch, or a hearse, or the Eiffel tower, it gets pretty crazy. Ter, Pea and I kept winning like extremely quickly, which led to Gerard becoming frustrated:P And of course, all the epic random guesses and lols were totally hilarious(:

Today:

Well the only thing of note that happened today was that I met up with Edward for dinner. Had an interesting discussing about liturgy, the old and new rites and other church issues, and he also helped me download a coupla liturgy-related apps for my iPhone.

Oh, and while at topman I saw a damn nice vest, and a trenchcoat, both at 99 bucks each. Tempted to buy, but no cash:X Ohwell.

Hmm. Well in reality there aint much to blog about for christmas. Midnight mass was damn grand, what with the mini orchestra and all. Was thurifer for the mass, and filled the entire church up with sweet incense smoke. The mark of a grand high mass is when there's the smell of burnt incense, and there's so much smoke that the air is almost solid.

Church was completely packed during midnight mass, with people standing along the corridors at the side and outside the church. I guess it also was great to see everyone come back to church. Seeing all those people who I haven't seen in ages was pretty heartwarming, i guess.

Anyway, it was fun exchanging gifts and all with friends. Oh, and camwhoring in blazers looking like some mafia. That was fun. Especially when I was wearing a waistcoat under my blazer, and making everyone else seem underdressed:P

It's indeed better to give than to receive. The simple joy that it brings to me to be able to share the love of Christ with my friends through these small gifts is just amazing. And seeing the thanks and gratitude of those around me reminds me why I have friends: The love and understanding shared between us. Giving gifts out of the bottom of our hearts for Christmas is indeed a heartwarming, joyful experience.

Oh, and before I forget: Thanks all for the wishes, gifts and hugs. They really mean a lot to me. Love you all(:

Christmas Caroling

Well christmas caroling with SFX Youth Ministry was pretty fun... I must say we sounded beautiful, even though we weren't actually a choir. And once we got high enough, doing the action songs were pretty damn fun(:

We also crashed Shawn's house to give Aunty Rose a surprise birthday party, with our caroling team singing her happy birthday. That was epic:P

Also managed to catch up with some friends whom I don't really talk to. Got to talk about quite a lot about random stuff. Was pretty, well, heartwarming I guess, to be able to talk to these friends whom I don't normally hang out with.

In other unrelated news, I agree with what the wise old Mark Sebastian Abraham told me: If we realize that there are cliques forming in our community, we must be the one to step out and break the clique. So here's to getting OWL less clique-ish and more bonded together. Time for me to start getting to know my community members on a deeper level.

Cycled to Downtown East again to play bowling... whole body aches now. And we're all freaking shagged. But it was fun.

In total this chalet I probably cycled like a total of 50km. It's really enjoyable, though, the thrill and freedom of cycling. I really need to fix up my own bike soon.

Just got back from a 15km cycle from the chalet to East Coast Park... Ass is aching like hell from the seat now:X And they intend to go night cycling again tonight. Ohwell.

Anyway, I realized I didn't mention anything about the chalet yet. It's somewhere off Changi Village, and it's super nice. We have like an entire compound, with some huge garden with a super long driveway, and a private stretch of beach. It's like fenced up from the rest of the area, and there's some huge iron gate in front of the driveway, which makes it look really like some haunted mansion at night:P And the chalet itself is awesome. Like some big bungalow with a beautiful view of the sea. Really nice(:

Well, the chalet has been fun so far. Spiritual sessions and sharings have been pretty fulfilling, and the bonding time with others is just awesome. Spent the most of yesterday playing xbox. Oh, and we cycled to Downtown East to watch Avatar. I must say that it is really an epic show. Definitely worth the 6 bucks.

Fell off my bike a coupla times last night, partly due to the slippery wooden boardwalk I was cycling on. No permanent damage, but my hip is aching:X Ohwell.

Rest of the facils who weren't here yesterday should be joining us at the chalet soon. Barbecue tonight(:

Altar Servers' Investiture was on Sunday... Super fun and kickass as usual. Of course, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy that the work's finally over. Mass was grand as usual, and thankfully we did manage to get incense for the mass:D Joe Nathan's homily was pretty apt, and was interesting too. Bosco's "improvised" Rite of Investiture was funny, testing the new boys by making them run around and get various items from the sacristy. The lunch was fun and enjoyable too, interesting activities (which I helped plan:P), it went rather smoothly, even if it was a little long. All in all, it was the usual for our Annual Investiture, super kickass and super fun.

OMG Cheena O level results are being released tomorrow. It's those really funny things where i both dread and am anxious for it to come. I want to see how i did, and whether if by some miracle i managed to get a C or B, but I'm dreading it as i know i probably messed up... Ohwell. We shall see(:

Okay, update on the past coupla days:P

Went for the musical by the SFX Youth Choir entitled "The Call". Well, you can say whatever you want about the choir, but i guess i have to admit that they are pretty damn good. The acting, singing, props, everything was amazing. Especially the singing and the lyrics of the songs, that was just beautiful.

On saturday, since this weekend was the Servers' turn to promote our ministry, we set up a coupla booths in church. Oh, and Joel gave his testimony during mass, which was pretty cool:P

Sunday was also the youth's flea market. Helped out a little to set up the stalls, but i ended up slacking off at the Servers' booth watching videos most of the time:P Had a lot of fun playing with the stuff there, and playing dress-up with the clothes. Well actually it was more like us trying to cross-dress Jerome:D

Then in the evening we watched the National Day Parade. It was a refreshing change, with the parade and performances conducted in a distinctly new style. But i really enjoyed the ceremonial parade segment. Haha(: And as usual, the President didn't sing the national anthem. Oh, and as some of us might have noticed, one of the PDS dudes dropped his rifile. Really have to pity him man, i mean if he's not screwed by his seniors he's gonna get suanned like hell by his friends

After that, went over to Shawn's house and stayed there from 9pm to around 2am, working on one of the slideshows for Servers' Investiture. Was pretty fun looking through all the fanatical and fun photos of servers. Of course, there were loads of the random, retarded jokes you get when you cram Joel, Shawn and I in the same room late at night, not to mention Aunty Rose and Clare. The usual retarded fun lah, i guess:P But yeah, by the time we finally finished the video the three of us were pretty damn shagged. And there's still the second video to finish.

And today. Well i'm at botanic gardens now, finishing up the last coupla hours of my SL. After that I'll probably be heading back to shawn house to finish the second video.

Had National Day Ceremony and uniformed groups award presentations on monday... Was pretty screwed up. Heh:P Let's just say our school now has a St James Ambulance Brigade unit; and the annoucer couldn't decide whether it was pronounced lieutenant of leftnant, among other things:P Ohohoh and I want a sword of honour! So fun to play with. Heh.

Crap, IOC tomorrow. Is screwed.

The session for SFX 50th anniversary celebrations by the Youth was today. Started off the afternoon with praise and worship. Was pretty good, first time in pretty long we had worship with a full band. Then after that, we had our "Are You Smarter Than A Fith Grader: Jesus Edition" gameshow, hosted by Gerard and I. How did it go? Well, um... let's just say that we indeed can learn a lot from our mistakes. To be honest, it wasn't really bad for our first time doing something that big, and we did get some affirmations. Praise God for that! After that was everyone's favourite part, food and fellowship(:

All in all, the session was pretty good. It was really heartwarming to see the number of people who had answered the call to youth ministry. Furthermore, I was also humbled by the worship band, by just listening to the music and seeing how talented their playing was.

After that, had Servers' ExCo meeting. And as usual, we were going off track like a lot:P Oh, and we discovered that one of the chalices in church, is actually over a hundred years old! Apparently it belonged to some French missionary who was in Singapore, and this chalice was made in the year 1903! Pretty cool, huh? We still dont have much idea how it turned up in our church, though.

Ohwell, off to bed now! National Day ceremony and Uniformed Group award presentation tomorrow. Nervous much! >.<

Went for some Walk on Water Productions play today, entitled "Postcards from St Paul". Was a really interesting and funny play, i must say i enjoyed it thoroughly. On the spiritual side, it did give us an insight into mission work, and the way Paul was dedicated to travel the world spreading the Good News. But the main thing that struck me is i guess the way they were able to apply Paul's teachings into daily life, especially in the many relationships we have. So yeah, it was a really enjoyable and enriching play. Kudos to them.
